How do I calculate the correct power supply size for my installation?
Add the amp requirements of all cameras and accessories together, then add at least 20% on top of that to ensure that you include a safety margin. For example, four cameras requiring 500mA each would need a minimum 2.4A supply. Investing in quality units with surge protection prevents voltage drops, video degradation, and equipment failure.
Are outdoor cables different from indoor ones?
Yes, they are – outdoor cables undergo a variety of different steps in the construction process to harden them against the elements, and they may also be armoured or shielded. Moisture, temperature and direct sunlight may otherwise degrade normal cables and put your system at risk, so it’s best to go with dedicated outdoor cables where possible.
