What is CCTV training?

CCTV training gives both individuals and organisations the knowledge, and practical skills that they need to both operate, maintain and manage CCTV systems. Our courses at Videcon cover a wide variety of aspects of successful CCTV operation and management, and we would encourage our customers to make the most of our industry knowledge to get the best out of their own setup.

How long is a CCTV course?

Please see the individual listings of our courses for course length. Most of our courses have flexible dates, to best work around the availability of you and your business.

Do I need training to operate CCTV cameras?

In theory it is possible to operate CCTV cameras without formal training, however being correctly trained and certified can be a major boost to CCTV monitoring effectiveness and job fulfilment. In some cases, formal training may be required for the job in question. Proper training ensures you understand critical aspects of CCTV including:

  • Image quality optimisation and camera positioning
  • Legal and privacy compliance obligations
  • System maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Data protection regulations

Many employers will mandate that training is required before allowing staff to operate CCTV systems. Even for personal use, training helps you maximise your investment and ensures you're operating equipment safely and lawfully. If your career is in CCTV, you will most likely find that the more qualifications and training you have, the better!

Do you have to be trained to install CCTV?

Yes, the installation of CCTV will usually require that the individual involved has the appropriate training and certifications, and this is especially true of commercial systems. Aspects such as electrical safety are critical, as are the correct configuration of networks within the building, and building regulations must be borne in mind as well. If systems are installed incorrectly either on domestic or commercial properties this can lead to issues with ineffective security setups, safety hazards, and potentially even problems with legal issues. Essentially, training protects both installers and end users.
