Why use a fisheye camera?

With up to full 360 degree coverage available, a fisheye camera can provide a great way to cover a wide area of your security setup in one convenient package, potentially saving on the costs and complexity involved in a multi camera setup. Fisheye cameras are great for covering wide areas both indoors and outdoors from many angles, and they excel in providing camera coverage for large, open areas where a larger network of cameras may not be necessary. As such, they represent a very cost – effective way to provide security to any organisation. They can also be more discreet and less obtrusive from a customer or visitor’s perspective, as opposed to the alternative of having a large array of cameras observing them.

Are fisheye cameras suitable for large commercial spaces?

Yes, fisheye cameras are very often suited to commercial environments such as warehouses, retail stores, banks, offices, and public facilities. They are especially effective for monitoring open areas with minimal obstructions.

Can a smaller number of fisheye CCTV cameras replace a traditional multi camera setup?

Depending on the specific requirements of the area that requires monitoring, the general answer is that yes, this can often be achieved. A single 360° fisheye camera can often cover the same area as three or four fixed cameras. It should be borne in mind however that non-typical area layouts may not lend themselves to the sole coverage of fisheye cameras, certain blind spots may need dedicated cameras, and so on.

What is dewarping? Do fisheye cameras support it?

Most commercial-grade fisheye cameras support dewarping, which digitally flattens the standard circular panoramic image that the camera captures into a more typical rectangular view. Dewarping can usually be done either in-camera or externally.

Do your fisheye cameras support smart features like motion detection or people counting?

Several of our Fisheye cameras have various advanced features to help with smart detection and monitoring, which includes but is not limited to:

  • Human/Vehicle Detection
  • Heat Map functionality
  • IR Illumination
  • Built-in Mics and speakers
  • Multiple decoding modes, software and hardware modes supported, interactive dynamic views
  • Micro SD card support

Are fisheye cameras vulnerable to vandalism?

Any CCTV system can be a target of malicious actors, however many of them are designed to be able to withstand such damage in advance - most of the IP fisheye cameras we stock at Videcon are IK10 certified vandal-resistant, which is the highest level of anti-vandal protection available to such devices - giving you excellent peace of mind.
