Paxton Net2 PlusThe Paxton Net2 software V7 is planned to be released this month. This version of the software will not support systems containing the Net2 Classic door controllers. Therefore, to continue to take advantage of the new features and software on offer that will continue to develop in planned future updates, Paxton is urging installers to upgrade from NET2 Classic to Net2 Plus controllers before the end of January. You can find out how many Net2 Classics are on your system by logging into Net2 v6.9; a pop-up message will appear. This pop-up will tell you how many Net2 Classic door controllers are on the system. You will also be able to export a list with the name and serial number of all the Net2 Classic door controllers on the system. Click Here to see an example message. Note that the Net2 v7 is a software release that will be available from January 2026; it will include new security features, including multi-factor authentication. |

Industry Highlights
As we move into 2026, fire, intruder, access control and CCTV solutions are evolving fast. You, the installer, are central to helping organisations, small businesses, and homeowners alike choose the right systems. Here are some key trends we are noticing and predicting will be big in 2026:
Integrated Security Systems.Segregated fire, access control. Intruder and CCTV systems are rapidly becoming legacy. Today’s end users want platforms that unify visitor management, access control, analytics and fire alarms into a single security data stream, giving them comprehensive situational awareness and faster incident decision-making. Industry trends show that unified security architectures where data flows in one consolidated layer are reshaping how systems are specified and managed in 2026. |

Mobile & Touchless Access ControlSmartphones, NFC, and Bluetooth credentials are rapidly overtaking physical cards and key fobs as the default method for securing doors and gates. Remote provisioning, instant access changes and a seamless user experience are now expected across organisations of all sizes, from corporate estates to residential blocks and small offices. Paxton10 Slimline Readers are designed to meet these modern access expectations. With Streamline Bluetooth Readers supporting secure mobile credentials, users can unlock doors using their smartphones while administrators manage access remotely in real-time. Access can be issued, updated or revoked instantly, removing the delays and costs associated with physical credentials. Mobile access through Paxton10 also delivers detailed audit trails, helping organisations maintain strong governance, visibility and compliance while simplifying day-to-day access management. |
Edge AI & Predictive Analytics.Cameras with built-in AI are now processing video locally (“at the edge”), meaning analytics run on the device itself rather than relying on cloud servers. This lets systems instantly filter out nuisance triggers like animals and flag real threats such as loitering or vehicle licence plates, reducing false alerts and cutting response times from minutes to seconds. A capability increasingly expected on commercial sites in 2026. With some forecasting that by late 2026, around 65% of all AI inference for CCTV will happen at the edge, underscoring how essential this is becoming for modern surveillance. Patrol Guard, 2025. As part of the Concept Pro AI range, the AI-Bridge sits at the centre of this shift, acting as the halo product that brings these intelligent triggers and analytics into immediate view. When paired with the Concept Pro IP camera range, AI functionality comes built in as standard, allowing edge-based analytics to be accessed instantly without additional complexity. This creates a unified, responsive surveillance setup aligned with the growing expectation for faster, more accurate threat detection across commercial environments in 2026. |

Professional Intruder ResponseThe UK intruder alarm market continues to grow, with global projections rising from USD 4.35 billion in 2024 to an estimated USD 7.92 billion by 2033. Axerf (2025) highlights the rising demand for reliable intrusion protection. In 2026, expect that intrusion systems will play more of an active role in risk management with real-time analytics, mobile alerts and smarter automated responses linking directly with access control, CCTV and buildinautomationns. Installers will see a rise in demand for systems that offer predictive insights, such as activity pattern recognition and andearly-warningg triggers, helping businesses and homeowners prevent incidents before they escalate. The shift towards more proactive security will make intrusion detection solutions an essential component of modern security strategies. |
Fire Standards & ComplianceIn 2026, fire security installers will possibly face stricter regulations under BS 5839-1:2025, with greater focus on risk-based design, correct detector placement, fire-resistant cabling and thorough commissioning documentation. “Around 32% of new fire alarm installations in 2025 included IoT and cloud-based monitoring, reflecting the shift toward smart connected systems with AI-assisted diagnostics.” 360 Reports, 2025. Wireless and hybrid solutions are also rising for retrofits and complex buildings. Installers must be aware of evolving risks from lithium-ion batteries, EV charging points and modern construction materials, while compliance, digital records and third-party certification remain essential for staying competitive. British Safety Council, 2025.

Martyn’s LawAs you may know, Martyn’s Law gained Royal Assent on 3rd April 2025 and introduces a significant change to UK protective security in publicly accessible venues and events with tiered capacities. Full enforcement of the security standard, including improved preparedness and reduced vulnerability across a wide range of premises, including schools, entertainment venues, retail spaces and community buildings, is expected by 2027, making 2026 a year for preparation. Installers are well placed to advise clients/end-users on how CCTV, access control and intruder systems can support practical security measures under Martyn’s Law. |
These trends reflect real shifts in technology and end-user expectations, from smart, predictive systems to unified control, mobile convenience, professional response and updated fire safety requirements. For installers, they’re both tools and opportunities to offer high-value, future-proof solutions that protect lives and peace of mind.
